Welcome video for Shoreham and Southwick Liberal Democrats

Covid inevitably led to some interesting working conditions around the world and Red Nomad were certainly no different. The inability to work with or near people for 5 months in the UK meant we had to rethink a number of projects we’d been planning, not least a welcome video for the local Liberal Democrats’ group in Southwick and Shoreham. A few months earlier we’d agreed to help the local group with a welcome video for their Facebook page to encourage engagement, except our planned concept of the traditional public interview montage was no longer viable in Covid conditions. Eeek, we needed a new plan, one which allowed us to work from afar yet still get their core messages across. Thinking caps on we decided to simplify the project and went for a more visually impactful storyboard with the now-standard text overlay and a solid music track.

Having penned a planned route around the local area, we sent our team to reccy the landscape and inner city, and to capture footage and images of contested hot spots. We spoke at length to the local group members regarding their manifesto and plans for the coming years, and integrated their key areas of focus with the story board image flow. Instead of recorded interviews cut up with an image montage we instead worked with slowed video footage interweaved with high resolution photos and overlaid textual narrative. Finally, we dropped everything into Premiere and bounced it down with a catchy beat. As simple as it is we love the result and find it not only ticks the box for a social media welcome video but also portrays key commitments the local group intend to focus on for the forthcoming years.

As per our engagement policy, Red Nomad are happy to work with anyone and everyone who likes what we do. Red Nomad do not draw distinctions between political parties and are keen to work on projects so long as they do not break our working ethics and guidelines. We think it is important to point this out because whilst we do not affiliate ourselves with any of our client’s work, we feel strongly that it is imperitive to be part of the ongoing dialog. As part of our commitment to help political groups engage with the community at all levels, we agreed to do this project on a voluntary basis.
